Wolverines PA target trends

The University of Michigan football team is finally getting some much-needed momentum in recruiting. Despite winning a national championship, the Wolverines are currently ranked 46th in the country in terms of recruiting. That could be about to change, however, as the Wolverines make moves to acquire a few quality players.

Michigan football has had success in Pennsylvania in recent years, but there are two talented targets in the 2025 class that UM has its sights on.

First up is top 100 tight end Andrew Olesch. This is going to be a Michigan vs Penn State battle. The Nittany Lions currently have the lead according to ON3, but Michigan is gaining momentum here. It’s no secret that the Wolverines have had more success than the Nittany Lions on the field, and the tight end position has always been great at Michigan.

Michigan and Penn State are also pretty even when it comes to NIL, with neither team doing much in terms of paying freshmen, but Michigan’s brand is arguably bigger than Penn State’s, so Michigan may actually have an edge in recruiting when it comes to NIL.

Most importantly, in my opinion, Michigan football will be Olesch’s last official visit. He just visited Alabama, will visit Florida next week, Penn State on June 14th, and finally Michigan on the 21st. June 21st is also Michigan’s Victor’s Weekend, the biggest recruiting event of the summer. It should be a great day for the Wolverines, with many top targets on campus, as well as prospective students.

The reality is, Olesch could finish his recruitment at any time. Most players commit as soon as they complete their official visit, so Michigan would be a big contender for Olesch. Acquiring an elite tight end like Olesch would mean a lot for the 2025 class and give Michigan a ton of momentum.

Next on the list is rookie Maxwell Roy. Roy has been pretty tight-lipped about his recruitment. Until this week, Ohio State was thought to be the favorite to land him. That is no longer the case, however. Michigan State appears to be the favorite to acquire the talented defensive lineman.

Roy was scheduled to visit Ohio State this weekend, but it’s unclear if he will be able to come. Roy is also scheduled to take an official visit to Michigan on June 21. According to ON3, Michigan is currently holding a commanding lead and has even gone along with EJ Holland’s prediction that the Wolverines will land Roy.

Michigan’s new defensive line coach, Lou Esposito, has done a great job recruiting and is probably the best recruiter Michigan has had so far. Thanks to Esposito, Michigan is set to have a great defensive line class in 2025.

Roy’s recruitment is definitely one to watch, and if he doesn’t make it to Ohio State this weekend, it could mean a commitment to Michigan football is imminent. Keep an eye on him.

Another thing to note is that having the two Penn State natives take an official visit on the 21st could be beneficial, especially if Roy commits by then. The distance between Ann Arbor and Pennsylvania isn’t that great, but it’s unlikely to be far away. A conversation between the two could alleviate any potential issues or concerns.

Overall, things are looking up for the University of Michigan football recruiting landscape. Hopefully the staff can land some of these top prospects and things will get back on track soon. Good luck, Blue.
