One injured person was placed in an ambulance and taken to a hospital after receiving reports of a self-immolation attempt outside the courthouse, New York City police said Friday afternoon.
The fire has been extinguished, officials added.
Police are responding to a man who started a fire outside a building.
Due to the high profile of the case, New York City police already had a heavy presence outside the courthouse. As smoke billowed from the protest area, they scrambled to find what appeared to be a fire extinguisher.

Potential juror excused over past social media posts against Trump
The potential jurors were excused after Trump’s lawyers and Marchan investigated past social media posts about Trump.
The juror said, “I don’t remember posting it.” “It’s not mine.”
Still, the juror added, “Yes, that’s what I might have thought at the time,” before being excused by the judge.

Potential juror says Jan. 6 was a ‘riot’
A prospective juror said the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol was an “insurrection” amid dire circumstances with Trump’s lawyers.
When asked if he had strong opinions about his posts about President Trump, he said, “If anything, it’s the negative rhetoric and bigotry that he speaks that is most harmful.”
Asked whether jurors had expressed strong dislike for President Trump, he said, “Based on his rhetoric, yes.” He added that he will continue to focus on “what is the law and what is a violation of the law?”
One juror said he thought Trump was “just wonderful.”
When asked what he thought of Trump, one juror said he thought of the former president as “mostly great.”
The juror also said of Trump: “I don’t know him personally. He’s a family man and a businessman.”
President Trump goes inside to survey potential voters
Trump will once again be treated as part of a mini-political focus group in the courtroom, giving him an inside look at potential voters in the 2024 election.
Some potential jurors said they supported Mr. Trump’s policies and thought he was a “family-oriented person.” At least one juror also said he had problems with Republican positions on religion and women’s right to control their own bodies.
The trial continues to be an interesting look for everyday New Yorkers as potential Republican candidates consider how to send their message to voters this fall.
Trump’s lawyer asks potential juror, sexual assault victim, if she intends to blame Trump’s background
Asked about his views on Trump, a potential juror said, “His rhetoric sometimes makes people feel like there’s a possibility.”
When asked what specifically about Trump’s rhetoric, she admitted that she doesn’t even know what Trump’s policies are, but that she doesn’t think people are saying that she’s racist, sexist, homophobic or anything. He pointed out that he was quoting Trump to justify his statements.
Next, President Trump’s attorney Susan Necheles said that this prospective juror, who admits to being a survivor of sexual assault, was accused by a woman of sexual assault against President Trump unrelated to this case. I asked him if he intended to use that against Mr. Trump.
