VF (VFC) ended the most recent trading day at $13.80, marking a +1.92% change from the previous day’s close. The stock outperformed the S&P 500, which posted a 0.85% gain for the day, while the Dow fell 0.09% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 1.53%.

Shares of the company, which owns brands such as Vans, The North Face and Timberland, have risen 5.29% over the past month, outpacing the Consumer Discretionary sector’s 0.59% gain and the S&P 500’s 3.11% gain.

The investment community will be closely monitoring VF’s upcoming earnings report performance, as the company’s earnings per share (EPS) are projected to be -$0.35, representing a decline of 133.33% from the year-ago period, while our most recent consensus estimates are calling for revenue of $1.85 billion, down 11.3% from the year-ago period.

For the full year, our Zacks Consensus Estimates are projecting earnings of $0.85 per share and revenue of $10.18 billion, which would represent changes of +14.86% and -2.61%, respectively, from the prior year.

Additionally, investors would benefit from monitoring any recent changes to analyst estimates for VF as these revisions typically reflect the latest short-term business trends, which can change frequently, so positive estimate revisions can be interpreted as a good sign for the company’s business outlook.

Our research shows that these estimate changes are directly correlated with near-term stock prices. To capitalize on this phenomenon, we developed the Zacks Rank. Our system takes these estimate changes into account and delivers a clear, actionable rating model.

The Zacks Rank system, which ranges from #1 (Strong Buy) to #5 (Strong Sell), has an impressive outside-audited track record of outperformance, with #1 ranked stocks generating an average annual return of +25% since 1988. Within the past 30 days, our consensus EPS projection has moved 38.41% lower. VF currently has a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).

In terms of valuation, VF is currently trading with a Forward P/E ratio of 15.89, which places it at a premium compared to its industry’s average Forward P/E of 15.42.

It’s also worth mentioning that VFC has a PEG ratio of 1.04. Similar to the widely accepted P/E ratio, the PEG ratio also takes into account a company’s expected earnings growth. As of yesterday’s market close, the average PEG ratio for the Textile & Apparel industry was 1.75.

The Textile & Apparel industry belongs to the Consumer Discretionary sector. This industry currently has a Zacks Industry Rank of 62, putting it in the top 25% of all 250+ industries.

The Zacks Industry Rank is ordered from best to worst based on the average Zacks Rank of the individual companies within each sector, and our research shows that the top 50% rated industries outperform the bottom half by a factor of 2 to 1.
