Slip-n-slides lathered with dish soap, popsicles that melt as soon as they see the sun, the crackling of flip-flops, the smell of the next door grilling hamburgers, and cicadas chirping as if their lives depended on it.
Did summer come to mind?
As a college senior, I realize that this will no longer be the image I associate with summer forever. This is your last summer free from the chains of work and responsibilities.
Ever since I grew up, I have always looked forward to this season. As a child, that meant more time outside with friends, and more importantly, no school.
It has always been, and always will be, my favorite time of the year. There’s something for everyone, no matter your interests.

No matter how hot the weather gets, you can’t reconsider your approach to summer. While this season promises some good times, the rest of the year is dangling in front of us.
I’m enjoying my last summer vacation as a college student, and I know that the best part about it is the amount of free time I’m promised. I love taking time off to do things that I enjoy rather than working on what I have to do.
Instead of busying yourself with Canvas assignments, you can spend your time reading by the pool. Instead of studying for exams, you can live frugally with your brother or drive around Tampa with your friends with the windows down.
This is the season of rest. Good for trying out a new hobby you didn’t have time for or trying out a new hair color since none of your co-workers will see.
The free time that comes with summer allows us to evaluate who we are, who we want to be, and how to get there.

No matter what the naysayers say, the heat is what makes this season so appealing. It’s peak time for outdoor adventures.
When the UV index reaches 10, any body of water becomes more attractive. The heat forces us to go to pools, beach parties, water parks, and even causes water balloon fights.
The best feeling after touching the cold pool water on a warm day is to dry yourself in the sun after swimming. Summer reveals the simple but sacred worldly pleasure of swimming in the sunshine.
This seasonal festival is my favorite of the year. Some of the best holidays and events take place from June to August.
Labor Day and Independence Day are great days for family barbecues and swim parties. Music festivals are a great opportunity for friends to get together and judge the attendees’ outfits and performances. Carnivals and food festivals make for great weekend outings.
Although summer no longer means a break from the hustle and bustle of work and school, I still love to remember all that this season has given me in the past.
Summer is the king of seasons, great for sun, fun, and adventure. Florida summers are hot, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
