She rejects the idea that athletes should remain “bare-faced” and believes everyone has the right to pursue beauty.

Sticking to her belief in her appearance and makeup, she did not disappoint at the 2024 National Athletics Championships, held in eastern China’s Shandong Province on June 30.

Wu won the women’s 100m hurdles in an astounding time of 12.74 seconds, the best time for an Asian athlete this season.

However, during a post-race interview, the mischievous athlete rubbed her eyes, causing her false eyelashes to fall out, and she quickly covered one eye with her hand to hide the makeup mishap.

The facial blunder delighted viewers online.

“The way you cover your eyes is so funny and adorable! You are a sincere and talented female athlete,” one user commented on Weibo.

Wu’s victory also erased doubts about her athletic ability following a bout of setbacks in April when she posted a subpar time in the first outdoor competition of the year, disappointing both fans and herself.

Fish is hospitalized

A woman in China has attracted a lot of attention after taking her pet fish to the vet.

Small and round-bodied, Red Parrot Cichlids are known for their friendly nature and are one of the most popular marine pet breeds in the country.

A pet owner named Lin, who lives in Guangzhou city, Guangdong province in southeastern China, became concerned after her pet developed what appeared to be a tumor.

She decided the best thing to do was to rush her fish companion of five years to the hospital.

The cost of treatment came to 470 yuan ($65), nearly 20 times what Lin had paid to the buyer of the fish.

Many on social media slammed her decision as a waste of money.

But Lin has no regrets and said you can’t put a price on the deep emotional bond you have with a pet.

“Every time I feed him, he swims up to me with his mouth pursed, as if he’s smiling, which makes me feel safe and happy,” she said.

Spicy Special

It looks painful: An online influencer livestreams how to eat durian, a spicy Asian delicacy. Photo: TikTok

A TikTok influencer livestreamed people eating durian skin, creating an impossible ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) video.

ASMR videos use calming, specific sounds and scenarios to stimulate the senses, promote relaxation and aid sleep.

So a video of two men eating a prickly durian skin with two different dipping sauces — one creamy, the other an Indonesian chilli sambal — felt a bit odd, as did the crunching sound they made as they ate it.

One online observer missed the point a bit and tried to tell the pair the “correct” way to eat durian.

“Open it and eat the yellow flesh inside. You’ve made a mistake that even a five-year-old wouldn’t make.”

However, durian skin is not without value.

In traditional Chinese medicine, it is considered nutritious and has medicinal properties, and is often used in meat soups because it is rich in dietary fiber.

Experts also recommend drying and powdering the peel to make a nutritious drink.
