UPFRONT: New DCCC investment
This weekend, House Democrats are expanding their target list in an attempt to flip enough Republican seats to take back control of the House in November. The Democratic House Campaign Committee will announce five new candidates as part of its Red to Blue initiative. They include Democrat Peter Barca, who is running for the House for the first time in Wisconsin and challenging Rep. Bryan. D-Triple C has pledged organizational and fundraising support for candidates like Barca. Rep. Suzan DelBene of Washington is the chair of D-Triple C. She joins us from Seattle. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you. Thank you for inviting me. With five months until the election, how likely do you think Democrats are to actually flip the House? Well, I’m confident we can flip the House. We need four more seats to take back the majority in the House. We have great candidates all over the country. People are excited and interested because this is an election for our rights, freedom, democracy, and future. And there’s a lot at stake. And with a great candidate like Peter Barca running, we have a great chance to win a lot of seats. Last week, you announced that you were endorsing five additional Democratic candidates, including Peter Barca, and hoping to flip it. Here in Wisconsin, this seat hasn’t been dominated by Democrats since Barca held it in the mid-’90s. Well, it was until just two years ago. Brian Styles won the seat by nearly 10 points. So why this seat, and why now? Well, this is a year of strong control in the East. Republicans are dominant in the House, but they’ve been taken over by the most radical part of the party. There are no moderates left on the Republican side. They’ve elected the most radical Speaker they’ve ever had. And we’re in chaos and dysfunction. And you’ve heard this Congress, which House Republicans are calling a do-nothing Congress. Well, people want governance to work. I’ve been going around the country. What they want is people who will stand up on issues that matter to families, who will advocate for affordability, who will address the needs of their communities, who will bring jobs back to America. Peter Barca is a proven leader, who is focused on getting things done, as opposed to Republicans who are just arguing with each other and pushing extreme policies. We need leaders who will come to Washington and govern. You talk about strategic guidance, fundraising, support staff, training for candidates, but how much of D Triple C is going to spend in Wisconsin? Well, we’re going to continue to support candidates across the country. We’re going to make sure we’re competitive everywhere. And it’s going to be a little bit different across the country. We know there will also be investments in the region based on the presidential race, the Senate race. So we’re going to do everything we can to support him and help him continue to run a strong campaign and get his message out there. Because if he gets his message out there, he’s going to win. At this point, there’s no limit to that investment. We’re going to continue to support candidates, but we’re not going to announce any specific investments. Are there other candidates in Wisconsin who could be affected by this red-to-blue push? For example, we have candidates facing off against Derrick Van Orden in the 3rd District and for the vacant seat in the 8th District that Mike Gallagher recently resigned from. Uh, we have a map of purple districts across the country. Uh, there are also places on the map where we have a great chance of winning a seat with three people, and we know that we’re going to have a fierce primary there. But whoever wins that primary, I’m confident that I’ll be in a great position. And I’d also like to thank Representative Suzan DelBene, the Chair of the Democratic House Campaign Committee, who helped me win that seat in Wisconsin, for taking the time to be with me. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much for having me. Have a great day. And next up, our new flag.
