Former Auburn University football quarterbacks Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, are both vying for the chance to be the Denver Broncos’ starter during the 2024 season, along with former New York Jets quarterback No. 1 Zach Wilson.
Stidham took an early lead in the Broncos’ quarterback competition, Defeat Nyx In the first few weeks, Wilson was also praised for his “active arm” and looked like a possible option for coach Sean Payton to key into the offense.
Par Michael David Smith of Pro Football TalkBut based on the -400 starting odds DraftKings gives to the Heisman Trophy finalists, it doesn’t look like the Knicks are going to give up the starting spot as they return to the top, with Wilson having the second-best odds at +450 and Stidham having the longest odds at +650.
Stidham’s fall to the bottom of the order doesn’t bode well for his long-term prospects in the Mile High City or anywhere else. Stidham, a 2019 draft pick, isn’t a young player like the Knicks and Wilson, a 2021 draft pick. This was a chance to earn a starting spot on an inexperienced QB staff, but it looks like he might not even get a backup spot.
It’s unclear which of the 32 NFL teams currently have room for Stidham if Denver decides to waive him. QBs with game experience are valuable, and injuries could create an opportunity during the season, but the NFL is missing out on Stidham as college QBs flood the market, making him a less attractive target.
While the UFL is always an option, Stidham seemed like he had a good enough chance to replace Russell Wilson as the Broncos’ QB1, and now that he’s lagging even behind Wilson, he looks like a surefire candidate to be cut before the season.
