jury of 12with Six The alternate nominee will be chosen from among hundreds of New Yorkers through an exhaustive selection process that could last longer than the first week of former President Donald Trump’s trial.
Here’s a breakdown of what happened on Monday.
- After 2:30 p.m. 96 Potential jurors were called for questioning and sworn in.
- at least 50 They were quickly excused after stating they could not be fair and impartial.
- at least Nine An increasing number of potential jurors were excused by raising their hands when asked if they could serve on a jury for other reasons. Those reasons have not been made clear.
When asked:
- martian called 18 New Yorkers head to the jury box for questioning.
- ten Questions were asked by the end of the day. One person, who said he held firm beliefs about President Trump, was dismissed and another was selected to serve on the jury. Mr Machan defended another juror who said his child was getting married on June 8th.
What’s next: around it 32 Potential jurors remained after Monday’s deliberations, according to a pool reporter who was in the courtroom. These included people who had already been questioned and were not exempted, as well as people who were still being questioned by Marchand on Tuesday.
The judge said another panel of potential jurors will be convened after the first group concludes.
