TERRY HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A new leadership transition is underway in Vigo County Schools, as the school board on Monday approved new staff for the upcoming school year.

The changes come as the school system restructures its administrative team.

As you may recall, the district’s superintendent announced the restructuring earlier this year in response to declining graduation rates.

On Monday, board members voted to approve John Newport as the district’s new assistant superintendent. Newport previously served as the district’s director of facilities support and transportation.

Newport replaces Karen Goller.

The board also hired Terry Haute South High School Principal Tammy Roushandell as the district’s new chief accountability officer.

Roushandel’s new position replaces the position of assistant superintendent for student services, a position previously held by Tom Bartiewicz.

A district spokesman said Bartievicz, Stacey Mason, vice chancellor for building leadership, and Teresa Stuckey, executive director of elementary education and Title I, are awaiting new assignments.

Superintendent Chris Himsel thanked Mr Newport and Mr Rowshandel for taking on these new roles.

“I’m so grateful for their work and am excited to have them join the team and continue in their new roles so we can continue to move forward,” Himsel said.

These personnel changes will take effect on July 1st.

At Monday’s meeting, the board also approved the hiring of Rachel Cox as principal of Sarah Scott Middle School and Christina Jarvis as principal of the Deming Early Learning Center.

School committee members also approved the retirement, effective June 14, of Honey Creek Middle School Principal Katrina McDonald.
