Ohio State has one of the best fan groups in college football, but of course they can be very annoying at times. They walk around saying “THE Ohio State” everywhere like they invented the phrase, but there’s no doubting their passion. One media analyst has rated the Ohio State fanbase as the least passionate in college football, and they just don’t think there’s much passion in it.

CBS Sports reporter Tom Fornelli released a list of college football’s least enthusiastic fans on social media, and the Buckeyes came in at No. 1. There’s no reason for Ohio State to be ranked as the least enthusiastic, because Ohio State isn’t.

Are Ohio State fans the most passionate fans in sports? No, they’re not, but they’re in the top 25. It’s fair to say that almost every SEC team’s fan base is more passionate than Ohio State fans.
The hard thing for Buckeye fans is they’re fans of a great team and they’re expected to win every game. When a team like Maryland comes to town, the fans don’t get excited. I’ve been to games where lower-ranked teams from the Big Ten come and it’s a ghost town and nobody cares.
Whenever a big game is played, the whole city shuts down and it’s a party. The 2022 Ohio State vs Michigan State game was an amazing experience. It was more than just a game. The stadium could have been louder at times and when Ohio State lost, the fans didn’t seem to care. They just went back to tailgating. They should have made an effort to show emotion when their team lost, but there’s no question that they love their team.
Ohio State is probably in the middle of the pack when it comes to number of passionate fans, but it wouldn’t be accurate to rank them at the bottom – there are teams like Rutgers and Vanderbilt who should be #1 and #2 on that list.
