The University of Michigan football program displayed unmatched passion and competitive spirit to reach the pinnacle of success last season, going undefeated and ultimately winning the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, their win over arch rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, remains one of the many highlights of last season’s incredible run. The significance of beating Ohio State remains deeply etched in the minds of Michigan fans and vice versa. Even two months after their 10th championship, social media platforms are still awash with anti-Buckeyes rhetoric from Wolverine diehards.
On Tuesday, former Ohio State head coaches Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel spoke to the media, praising this year’s Buckeyes as “one of the most talented teams of the last decade, maybe ever.” In response, die-hard Michigan football fans flooded Twitter, criticizing their longtime bench boss while proudly maintaining their team’s ability to beat Ohio State again in 2024.
Michigan football fans: Unfazed by glowing assessment of Ohio State Buckeyes’ 2024 roster

Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer didn’t mince words when it came to this year’s Ohio State roster: “Right now, this team has one of the most talented roster positions of the last decade, maybe ever. That’s a big statement. These guys have played games, and when you look at the quality of players at each position, you’ve never seen anything like this,” said Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to victory in the 2014 College Football Playoff National Championship.
“This is one of the most talented teams of the last decade, maybe of all time.”
Urban Meyer has commented quite a bit about this year’s Buckeye team, saying he’s never seen a player with the talent that Woody has.

Fellow head coach and national champion Jim Tressel corroborated Meyers’ comments, saying, “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that many great players in that building all at once…Ryan (Day) did a great job.” Ohio State returns most of its 2023 class and the offseason acquisitions of quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinsion Judkins give the team a boost. But Michigan football fans are unfazed by Meyer and Tressel’s comments on social media mocking the former Ohio State head coach.

This year’s win against Ohio in the stadium they call the Toilet Bowl will be the most satisfying win I’ve had against the Bucks in my lifetime.

USU will lose 2-3 games this season. New QB and average OL. PSU, OR and Michigan will swamp USU.

Michigan vs. Ohio State: A late November showdown

As per usual, the University of Michigan football team will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in late November. Michigan will travel to Columbus this year, where the Wolverines ran against the Buckeyes in 2022. Michigan has beaten Ohio State three years in a row, but the Buckeyes have not topped 30 points in any game. Meanwhile, the Wolverines have averaged 39 points per game during that span.
Michigan’s latest win streak improves the series to 61-51-6. Michigan also holds the longest winning streak in the history of the rivalry, with nine straight wins from 1901-1909. Additionally, 2024 will mark the first time in five years that Ohio State coach Ryan Day will not face Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines will enter the Sherone Moore era next fall after Harbaugh left for the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers.
