The Minnesota Vikings completed their over-the-top team activities (OTA) last Thursday and will have a month off before training camp begins. Rookies will report to camp on July 21 and veterans on July 23.
One of the lesser-noticed news stories surrounding the Vikings secondary is how many safeties they will keep on the 53-man roster.
Minnesota Vikings safety room vacant

The Vikings entered the break with five safeties, with starters Harrison Smith and Camryn Bynum and former first-round picks Jay Ward and Theo Jackson as backups.
The Vikings made a change to the position of the undrafted second-year player.

Najee Thompson made the switch from cornerback to safety this offseason and the Vikings currently have six safeties on the roster. Thompson played primarily on special teams last season, recording seven tackles and one fumble recovery in 195 special teams snaps as a rookie. Many believe he will make the 53-man roster.
This recent news has left their former first-round pick in roster jeopardy.
Former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick in roster doubt
Given the recent news that Najee Thompson is switching positions, Louis Cine is in danger of losing his roster spot. Cine, the 32nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has had a disappointing start to his NFL career.
Shine did not record any statistics in his rookie season, appearing in just three games, two on defense and 34 on special teams, after missing Week 1 for medical reasons and the final 13 games with a compound fracture in his left foot.
Cine again missed significant time in his sophomore season, appearing in seven games and recording one tackle on defense and 84 on special teams, missing 10 games due to medical reasons.
Louis Cine will be competing for a spot

Shinae has a crucial training camp coming up where he’ll be fighting to stay on the 53-man roster. Will he live up to the opportunity or will he succumb to the pressure?
