LSU had a tough season last year, losing three games despite having Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and wasting a perfect offense while the defense couldn’t stop anyone.
Daniels is now in the NFL, and the Tigers are expected to start Garrett Nussmeyer at quarterback this season, so he’ll have some holes to fill. But the good news is that LSU can still make the playoffs with some losses this season due to the new 12-team format. CBS Sports released their SEC win numbers for 2024 and project LSU to win 10 games.
LSU loses two key games

The good news is that the Tigers are expected to win their first game of the year against non-conference opponent USC, which could be something of a mini-postseason matchup. If both teams are competing for the final spot, LSU will win the head-to-head matchup, but here’s what Bucks said about LSU’s win total this season:
LSU’s non-conference schedule is quite intriguing. The Tigers will play both Los Angeles-based Big Ten teams, but neither game will require a trip to California. There will be seven home games and four true road matches against SEC teams. Those teams were a combined 11-21 in conference play last season. The Tigers will play Alabama at home. A 10-game regular season would be progress for Brian Kelly, but then LSU’s CFP fate may be out of their hands. Pick: 9.5+ (+130)
If the Tigers only lose two games this season and are not facing weaker teams, they could remain in one of the final playoff spots if those losses are the only two. Alabama and Ole Miss are both likely playoff teams and could help LSU bounce back and slide into 10th or 11th place.
