Enactus is a global non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators. With a vision to create a better, more sustainable world through social entrepreneurship, Enactus connects a network of businesses, communities and student leaders around the world.
Enactus Kirori Mal, a student chapter at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, embodies this spirit. Committed to leveraging entrepreneurship, Enactus Kirori Mal students aim to transform the lives of underprivileged communities and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive world. The chapter provides students with a valuable opportunity to analyze grassroots-level social and environmental issues and gain practical experience through a range of projects focused on empowering marginalized communities.
Enactus Kirori Mal currently runs three projects: Project Syahi, Project JanBhoomi and Project Dor.
Launched in 2019, Project Shahi aims to replace traditional plastic pens with eco-friendly alternatives made from recycled paper. A seed is embedded in the back end of each pen to promote reforestation and combat plastic pollution. Revenue generated will support disadvantaged women’s communities and transform them into skilled entrepreneurs.
The JanBhoomi project focuses on combating land degradation and enhancing waste management through composting and horticulture solutions. Achievements include turning flower waste from Delhi’s Birla Mandir into valuable compost and setting up 159 vermicomposting pits in over 75 villages in Palwal, reducing farmers’ dependency on chemical fertilisers. The project also introduced terracotta home composters, making composting easy for households and organisations.
Enactus Kirori Mal’s first venture, Project Dor, is committed to reviving the endangered Indian art of tie-dye and empowering underprivileged migrant women. Operating as a zero-waste brand, Dor produces gender-neutral and neo-ethnic products. Recently, Dor introduced tie-dye t-shirts, expanding its product line while preserving cultural heritage.
Enactus Kirori Mal has garnered significant recognition, reaching the semi-finals at the Enactus national competition in 2016 and consistently ranking among the top 30 teams in 2019 and 2020. The team has won prestigious business plan competitions and received grants from KPMG Ethnic Grant and Mahindra Grant. Media coverage in leading newspapers and channels further highlights their influential presence.
Through its efforts, Enactus Kirori Mal aims to raise awareness, build sustainable innovations and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With a mind for business and a heart for the world, Enactus Kirori Mal is constantly exploring possibilities, taking action and enabling progress.
