Temperatures set to drop across Northern California over the weekend

Over the weekend. Folsom is tracking for us this afternoon. We have a couple of thunderstorms here along the Sierra Nevada. A lot of them are relatively isolated, but areas like South Lake and especially along Highway 89 around Meeks Bay and Emerald Bay have had a couple of showers pass through within the last 30 minutes. We’re also keeping an eye on Highway 88 moving from the east side of Kirkwood towards the state line. We’ve got some showers there. And I’m also keeping an eye on a band of clouds east of Truckee right now. And in the next few minutes, this band of clouds will continue to move north and northeast. At least as we get closer to this 5:00 time frame, it’s losing some of its power, but we can clearly see scattered clouds along Lake Tahoe. There’s plenty of moisture at the upper levels and, of course, plenty of daytime heat waves in preparation for a convective storm to pass through. That’s been the case for the last couple of hours around Truckee and Tahoe. I think the weather will start to improve in the evening. But it’s a hot afternoon right now. 101 in Sacramento, 102 in Stockton, 99 in Modesto, 64 in Lake Tahoe. And the winds are starting to shift a little bit, especially in Delta Fairfield, with southwest winds blowing at 9 mph. But we’re seeing winds coming from the north. Stockton Modesto is 9 to 13. And of course, any wind can blow pollen into the area. So if anything is irritating you, it’s likely that tree pollen or grass pollen will be the top of the list this week. For tree pollen, juniper will be the top. So if you’re getting watery eyes or sneezing, that could be the culprit. The weather in the valley on Thursday will be mostly southwest winds, but we don’t have a lot of cold air on top of that, so we expect it to continue to be pretty hot tomorrow.Temperatures will be in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. The weather forecast for the foothills of Auburn has a fairly mild start tomorrow morning with temperatures dropping into the 70s. There will also be a slight southwest wind, bringing temperatures to the mid to upper 90s in the foothills on Thursday. And South Lake Tahoe will likely see more clouds in the coming days. There will also be some scattered showers, but the overall trend is that tomorrow will be a mainly dry day in the mountains with temperatures in the upper 70s Fahrenheit. If you have outdoor recreation plans, the overall pattern shows that the heat wave will continue to move eastward at the beginning of the weekend. So, notice that we won’t see a deep orange layer on Friday. Instead, as the orange fades, temperatures will definitely drop to the upper 90s and into the upper 90s over the weekend. Before that, we can expect to see more heat waves moving into the area. From NEX
