A recent report by CyberArk analyzed identity and vulnerability management. The report found that 93% of organizations experienced two or more identity-related breaches in the past year. The report found that machine identities were the largest contributor to identity growth and were considered the riskiest identity type by respondents.
According to the report, 50% of organizations expect a 3x increase in identities over the next 12 months. 61% of organizations define privileged users as humans only. The report found that 38% of organizations define privileged users as all human and machine identities with sensitive access.
The report found that 84% of organizations plan to use three or more cloud service providers (CSPs) within the next 12 months, and nearly all organizations (99%) are using AI in their cybersecurity defense efforts.
93% of respondents expect AI-powered tools to pose cyber risks to their organization in the next 12 months. Over 70% are confident that employees would be able to identify deepfakes of their organization’s leaders. 9 in 10 organizations have fallen victim to an identity-related breach due to a phishing or vishing attack.
According to the report, nearly three-quarters (68%) of respondents say up to 50% of all machine identities have access to sensitive data, compared to 64% who say roughly half of human identities have access to sensitive data. Due to the growing number of machine identities accessing sensitive data, 49% of respondents identify machine identities as the riskiest identity type.
