The state executive commissioner said he urged traders to avail of funds provided by the government for entrepreneurship development.
Johor state Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohamed Khairi Md Shah said about RM395 million was allocated for entrepreneurship development last year.
He noted that there are a number of different agencies in the state that can provide assistance to entrepreneurs to further develop their businesses.
“We want to nurture more entrepreneurs, especially from the younger generation,” he said in a keynote speech at the Malaysian Entrepreneurs Association’s (MDEA) 10th anniversary and fourth launch ceremony.
Mohamed Khairi said everyone, including non-governmental organisations, needed to work together to foster entrepreneurship among people, especially the youth.
“We may have different political ideologies but we should always work together for the development of Johor,” he said, praising the MDEA for supporting the community in the area of entrepreneurship over the past decade. He also congratulated the association’s new president Datuk Seri Jacky Kah Cherk Yee and the new officers on their appointments.
In his address, Carr said around 500 guests including members, NGOs and business organisations attended the event.
“Events like this are important for us to share resources, knowledge and information,” he said.
At the event, MDEA presented a fake cheque of RM10,000 to Yayasan Sultanah Rogaya chairman Datuk R. Segmaran to support the needy in Johor.
Also present was Datuk Abdul Rashid Kasman, representing Dewan Negara deputy speaker Datuk Noor Jazlan Mohamed.
