IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WJMN) – On Saturday, May 18, young entrepreneurs in Iron Mountain will be setting up lemonade stands across town.
This is part of a free, community-wide event called Lemonade Day. Lemonade Day is a strategic, lesson-based program that introduces young people to entrepreneurship by teaching them how to start, own, and operate their own lemonade stand. As youth complete the Lemonade Day curriculum with the guidance of their mentors and parents, they are prepared for the real-life experience of owning a business. This is the second year the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted this event.
“Right now, we need people to support these budding entrepreneurs,” said Suzanne Larson, executive director of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce. “They’ve spent the last few months learning how to build a business and how to market their business. And now we’re putting this date on the calendar and saying, “We need people to come out and support these kids.” So there’s a lot going on in our city that day, but I encourage people who are on their way to the bingo tournament or on their way to the vendors to stop by the stand and grab a glass of lemonade. What do you think? I don’t know what kind of effect it will have on that child.”
A portion of the proceeds from the children’s lemonade stand will be donated to a nonprofit organization of their choice. Visit lemonadeday.org/dickinson-county-mi to see a map of all lemonade stand locations, hours of operation on Saturday, May 18, and what items will be for sale.
