The sun-drenched region continues to grow in popularity among travelers, with resort bookings increasing in Cancun and across Mexico’s Caribbean.
This comes according to new figures released this week which show that around 70% of hotel rooms in Cancun are already sold out ahead of the summer.


And with record numbers of tourists planning trips to the region this summer, resorts are bracing for crowded beaches and a hectic travel scene.

Cancun bookings up as Americans head off for summer vacations
Cancun ranks highly in travel polls, and more travelers are planning trips there this summer.
With just a few weeks until the official start of the summer season, sun-drenched resorts across the region are already seeing above-average occupancy rates.
July and August are shaping up to be particularly promising months for resorts in the region, with more than 70% of all rooms in Cancun already sold out.


The coastal resort is currently the most popular in the region, with occupancy rates reaching about 76% in June this year, a figure that is expected to rise well above 80% this summer, despite new resorts opening to tourists in the city, including the massive AVA Cancun.
Cancun resorts are also stepping up hiring in preparation for the busy summer season, with some facilities facing staff shortages of up to 10%.
Isla Mujeres rooms nearly sold out this summer
Cancun remains Mexico’s Caribbean’s most popular destination in terms of total tourist numbers, but more hotel rooms are expected to sell out on the nearby island of Isla Mujeres.


Occupancy rates in this magical town have reached nearly 83% this month, and with even more tourists expected in the coming months, now is your last chance to book a room on the tropical island.
Isla Mujeres is a popular day trip from Cancun and a fantastic destination in its own right.
The area’s luxury accommodations and numerous private beaches, such as the recently opened Impression Isla Mujeres By Secrets, are popular among travelers.


As a result of the island’s rapid growth, some of the island’s smaller hotels are suffering from power outages during the heatwaves.
Puerto Morelos remains popular with tourists
Finally, coastal hotspots Puerto Morelos Mexico is expected to record some of the highest occupancy rates in the Caribbean this summer.
Located just south of Cancun, Puerto Morelos is a quaint fishing village that is now home to a growing number of luxury all-inclusive resorts.


The city is currently renovating many of its public beaches and adding new facilities to make them safer for visitors.
Besides its rustic atmosphere and white sand beaches, Puerto Morelos is home to numerous natural attractions, including the famous Ruta de los Cenotes, and this year the city declared a new nature reserve, the Puerto Morelos Mangroves, to further expand its ecotourism potential.
Keep popular destinations in mind
Classic destinations like Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen are expected to see the most visitors this summer, but Tulum is also expected to see more visitors.


This is mainly due to the opening of Tulum’s new international airport, which is already seeing higher-than-expected traffic, welcoming thousands of tourists per day.
This week, JetBlue became the latest airline to launch nonstop service from JFK to the destination.
