Sudha Murthy has shared her reading list for July on social media. The Rajya Sabha member, philanthropist and wife of Infosys billionaire Narayana Murthy has revealed a list of three books that she plans to read this month. The collection has a mix of genres and themes, ranging from a fictional story of a woman who inherited Rajwada in Mahabaleshwar to a true story of one of the biggest financial frauds of the 21st century.
Below you’ll find Sudha Murty’s July reading list.
In the Shadow of Succession by Manjiri Prabhu
Described by publisher Penguin as an “unforgettable love story”, Manjiri Prabhu’s “In The Shadow Of Inheritance” tells the story of Tara, who inherits the Kanolkar Rajwada in Mahabaleshwar and uncovers dark secrets, including the mystery behind her father’s murder.
Curiously, Sudha Murthy’s description of the book is quite different from the Penguin description, which reads: “The book follows Sonia Rai, who inherits a Bavarian estate. As she explores the estate, she discovers family secrets and hidden dangers.”
And Longing for What It Isn’t by Sunita Deshpande
Indian author Sunita Deshpande’s bittersweet memoir paints a picture of a life well-lived, tracing her journey from student revolutionary to stage actor, writer and education administrator. Sunita Deshpande was the wife and secretary of popular Marathi playwright PL Deshpande. Her memoir, Ahe Manohar Tari, published in 1990, was translated into English by Gauri Deshpande (no relation) in 1995.
“Through interconnected stories, it delves into the complexities of human relationships and unfulfilled desires, exploring themes of longing, loss and identity,” Sudha Murthy describes the book.
The Billion Dollar Whale by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope
Two Pulitzer Prize finalists tell the true story of Jho Low, the Malaysian businessman and international fugitive accused of embezzling $4.5 billion from 1MDB. “Billion Dollar Whale is a classic, harrowing fable about 21st-century finance,” the book description on Goodreads says.
“Learn how Jho Low orchestrated one of the biggest financial frauds in history. This story reveals how Low embezzled billions of dollars from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund and created a global corruption network,” Sudha Murthy’s post describes the book.
