Addison Cable, one of this year’s Strawberry Festival Princesses, has a knack for getting things done, from being a senior senator and school event coordinator to pursuing a degree in business management.
Cable and his family moved from California to Lebanon, where his father’s family had lived for generations, just in time for the 100th Strawberry Festival. From her kindergarten days watching other Strawberry Princesses go on stage and cut shortcakes, the now 17-year-old seizes the opportunity.
“I really just want to meet people,” Cable said. “I think it’s amazing to see how many people there are and how many people are willing to tell us about their life stories.”
Cable said one of her favorite things about being Strawberry Princess is going to school and visiting children (including homeschooled children this year) and foster care homes. She also likes the closeness of the Lebanese community.
“I love how well everyone comes together,” Cable added. “There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that if someone needs something, we will all come together to help.”
Cable lives on a farm with his parents, three brothers, sister-in-law and animals, but says he often travels to California. After earning a degree, perhaps specializing in hospitality management, she will consider multiple paths, including starting an event planning company with her mother or landing a job at a “dream” company like Disney. ing. Cable also wants to travel the world.
“My mom and I have plans to go to Disneyland all over the world,” Cable said. “(We) had family in Norway. That’s where (our family) is from.”
Cable, on the other hand, said he often spends time with his siblings and tends to imitate their hobbies, such as skateboarding.
“I’m best friends with my whole family,” Cable added.
Cable’s parents, Jennifer and Joe Cable, work for the Linn County Youth Center and the City of Albany, respectively, and Cable says her mother is one of her biggest inspirations.
“She’s always had that ‘I’m going to do what I set out to do’ (attitude), she’s always been very determined and she’s not going to let anyone bring her down,” Cable praised her mother. “That’s why she always says, ‘I’ll do it that way.'” this And you’re not telling me otherwise. ”
Although she loves all the activities involved, getting to know the other princesses is one of her favorite aspects of being a member of the Strawberry Court.
“I know some of[the princesses]outside[of the royal court]but I’ve never had the opportunity to really interact with them this deeply,” Cable explained. “And I’m really looking forward to going to parades and things like that and seeing more people.”
Cable said her parents taught her not to take life too seriously and not to worry about things.
“Enjoy it and move on without worrying too much about what might go wrong.”
Next year, Cable thinks it would be a good idea to have a rock and roll Strawberry Festival theme.
“I think any neon color would make everything really cool,” she said.
