Two-thirds of economists polled by Reuters had previously predicted the move. Switzerland’s interest rates are already the second-lowest among the G10 developed countries.
Analysts are now debating whether the Swiss National Bank could cut interest rates for a third time in 2024.

European stocks open slightly higher
European stocks opened modestly higher on Thursday as investors awaited interest rate decisions from the central banks of Britain, Switzerland and Norway.
The European stock index STOXX 600 rose 0.1% in early trading, with most sectors trading in positive territory.

Economic data due this week includes housing starts and initial jobless claims
Wall Street will be focused on a collection of economic data starting Thursday to close out the second half of the trading week.
Initial jobless claims, housing starts and U.S. building permits are all scheduled to be released at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, along with the release of the Philadelphia Fed’s manufacturing survey.
Services and manufacturing PMI data will be released on Friday morning, followed by existing home sales figures.

Stock futures were little changed on Wednesday
Stock futures were little changed on Wednesday as investors looked to end the shortened trading week on an upswing following the S&P 500’s latest record.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.05%, while Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.2%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 41 points, or 0.2%.
