Madras Fertilisers (down 5.65%), Agro Phos India (down 5.32%), The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (down 5.27%), Zuari Agro Chemicals (down 4.92%), National Fertilisers (down 4.91%), Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (down 4.77%), Southern Petrochemicals Corporation (down 3.87%), Nagarjuna Fertilisers & Chemicals (down 3.06%), Aries Agro (down 2.81%) and Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals (down 2.74%) were among the top losers on the day.
The NSE Nifty50 index fell 108.75 points to end at 24,324.45, while the 30-stock BSE Sensex fell 426.87 points to end at 79,924.77.
Asian Paints (up 3.15 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (up 2.24 per cent), Divis Laboratories (up 1.87 per cent), Britannia Industries (up 1.53 per cent), Grasim Industries (up 1.47 per cent), HDFC Life Insurance (up 1.46 per cent), Power Grid Corporation of India (up 1.44 per cent), NTPC (up 1.16 per cent), Apollo Hospitals Enterprises (up 0.88 per cent) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (up 0.83 per cent) were among the top gainers in the Nifty index.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra (down 6.62%), Tata Steel (down 2.23%), Hindalco Industries (down 1.94%), Tata Consultancy Services (down 1.92%), Hero MotoCorp (down 1.44%), State Bank of India (down 1.43%), HCL Technologies (down 1.39%), Shriram Finance (down 1.08%), JSW Steel (down 1.06%) and Wipro (down 1.01%) ended lower.
