BLACKPINK’s Lisa has returned to the music industry after a hiatus of about two and a half years with her latest song. rock starInterestingly, this marks her debut release under her new record label, LLOUD. The 2 minute 48 second music video showcases Lisa’s bold new hip hop personality. While staying true to her Thai roots, the K-Pop idol delivers some fierce English rap that reveals a lesser known side of her artistic expression.

Set against the backdrop of Bangkok, the music video sees Lisa wandering the urban landscape alone and with dancers, wearing a distinctive backless crop top with a star-like shape that visually matches the single’s title.

In the lyrics, Lisa emphasizes the evolution from traditional K-pop norms by singing, “Make your favorite singer want to rap, baby, la-la, Lisa, can you teach me Japanese? That’s my life, baby, I’m a rock star.”

Surprisingly, Lisa made history by becoming the first female solo artist to win Best K-Pop Artist at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards for her hit music video. LarisaTheir debut single album of the same name, released in September 2021, broke records in Korea, selling 736,000 copies in its first week of release.
