Rite Aid to close more Mid-Michigan stores during bankruptcy

Going-out sales are happening at most of the Rite Aid stores that were added to the closure list last week, and are scheduled to close by the end of July.

Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in October 2023 amid declining sales and looming financial judgments from litigation over the nationwide opioid crisis.

Walgreens to close 'significant number' of 8,600 U.S. stores

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit alleging that Rite Aid knowingly filled prescriptions for counterfeit or invalid opioid painkillers despite “red flags” that warned pharmacists that they were inappropriate.

Once the store closures are complete, Rite Aid will be left with about 150 stores in Michigan and fewer than 2,000 nationwide.
