Thursday was the 12th day in a row that temperatures in central Indiana were above normal. This period will likely end on Friday, but otherwise during the weekend. We are noticing a slight change in pattern from current warmth to slightly cooler weather. A change in the pattern will occur in central Indiana as storms precede a cold front.
Thursday night turned into a storm
A cold front is underway and heading towards us. There’s a storm brewing in Illinois. Some included severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. Most of central Illinois and Missouri are under a severe thunderstorm warning. A tornado was also confirmed in central Illinois.
The timing appears to be after sunset, with the storm expected to hit the Illinois-IN border between 8 and 9 p.m., before moving eastward. The storm will reach the Indy metro between 11 p.m. and midnight, and the eastern counties shortly thereafter. In terms of threats, all forms of severe weather have an impact. However, the biggest threats appear to be hail, strong winds and heavy rain. However, the possibility of isolated tornadoes cannot be completely ruled out. We will continue to monitor where the warm front is positioned ahead of the storm. A general severe weather threat exists to the south and west.
The post-storm pattern transitions into the weekend.Patchy frost possible
Things will be quiet starting Friday as high pressure settles overhead. Friday’s high was near 60 degrees, and it looks like temperatures won’t get that high over the weekend. Low temperatures Saturday and Sunday night will fall into the 30s. With that in mind, central Indiana could see some spots with patchy frost.
Temperatures will remain at or below normal for most of next week. Aside from a chance of rain on Tuesday, more dry hours are expected next week, and that’s to be expected. Precipitation since April 1 was 3.61 inches above normal, the wettest since 1957.
