Tuesday’s market | Nifty could not maintain the rise even after hitting a record high and ended in the red
In a very volatile session, the market erased all intraday gains and ended lower amid selling in IT, metals, media, and oil and gas stocks.
At the close, the Sensex fell 188.50 points or 0.25 per cent to 74,482.78 and the Nifty fell 38.60 points or 0.17 per cent to 22,604.80.
In April 2024, the BSE Sensex index and Nifty50 index rose by 1% each.
After a strong start, the market widened its gains as the day progressed, with the Nifty hitting a new high while the Sensex also neared its all-time high of 75,124.28, led by auto, power and real estate stocks. Ta. However, the selling in the last hour wiped out all the gains.
Nifty Midcap 100 Index and Nifty Bank Index also hit record highs during the day.
M&M, Power Grid Corporation, Shriram Finance, Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto were among the top gainers on Nifty, while Tech Mahindra, BPCL, JSW Steel, HCL Technologies and Sun Pharma were among the losers. .
By sector, IT, metals, media, oil and gas, and healthcare fell by 0.4% to 1%, while autos, power, and real estate each rose more than 1%.
While a wide range of indices outperformed their benchmarks, with the BSE Midcap Index hitting a new high and ending 0.5% higher, the Small Cap Index ended flat.
