Scott Frost has seen the best of UCF football. In fact, Frost was in charge when the Knights were at their best. He went 13-0 in the 2018 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, including a win over Auburn.
That year, Cory Matrix declared the Knights the No. 1 team in the country and gave UCF the right to win the national championship, but there were mixed reviews.
Frost would probably do anything to get back to that moment. This was the last time he finished a season with a winning record, and it was also the last time his tactics as a head coach were not subject to intense scrutiny.
For almost five seasons after that, Frost coached at Nebraska, very close to the former Cornhusker’s heartland. Although he tried, he was never able to bring the Huskers back to the level of success he had while playing quarterback at Lincoln University, or any level of success.
Now, Nebraska’s most recent failed coach, Frost is looking for an opportunity to return to the sidelines after being deeply involved in the game his entire life.
“For the first time in my life, I don’t know what’s going to happen next,” the former Nebraska coach told CBS Sports. “I can’t wait to get back in.”
“Throughout my life, I’ve been a Little League player, a high school player, a college player, an NFL player, [graduate assistant], then the position coach, then the coordinator, and then the head coach. It was on track and I knew what was going to happen next. ”
While having the opportunity to be the head coach at his alma mater is definitely one he will never forget, some of Frost’s fondest memories are from his time in Orlando. In fact, he believes this program is on its way to becoming something truly special in the college football world.
“In 10 years, UCF will be [national] It’s power,” Frost said of the Knights. “This is the best college town in Florida. Orlando? The campus is beautiful.”
UCF is coming off a 6-7 season under coach Gus Malzahn in 2023, the Knights’ first year in the Big 12. But in Orlando, there are high hopes that things will get even better in 2024 as UCF gains significant strength in league play. Transfer portal.
With names like KJ Jefferson, LaDarius Tennison, Jesiah Pierre, and Deshaun Pace joining the program, that’s a real possibility.
If they do, their former coach will be rooting for them enthusiastically and may one day return to Orlando.
