President William Ruto says university graduates in Kilgoris, Narok County, are currently earning Sh68,000 a week from online jobs.
The President, who visited Kilgoris on Sunday, met with Mr. Abraham Reteipa Caeno and said that he has accepted to work online and that he is putting up impressive numbers every week.
“Abraham Reteipa Caeno is a powerful story about how young people can effectively leverage technology for self-employment. Through Konza Digital Skills, the 29-year-old Kilgoris University graduate earns an average of 500 jobs per week in online work. I earn USD (68,000 shillings),” Ruto said in a social media post.
Mr Ruto’s latest remarks follow similar remarks he made in January after an encounter with a university student from Mossop, Nadi County, who was said to be earning more than Sh26,000 a week from online work.
Brian Kipchumba, a student pursuing a degree in ICT, showed Ruto how he earned Sh40,000 from a single gig on the now-closed Kenyan website Remotasks.
A few weeks later, the president announced plans to set up computer labs in rural areas and train young people to earn dollars doing online jobs in a campaign dubbed “Finya Computer Itoe Dollar.”
During his visit to Kilgoris on Sunday, Mr Ruto inaugurated the Ildrisho Comprehensive School Konza Digital Skills and later also broke ground for the construction of Kenya Utarii College’s Ildrisho campus.
Konza Digital Skills is an initiative under the Konza Jitume program that provides young people with access to digital services, digital skills and opportunities to use technology to create jobs.
