There isn’t much of a story other than fighting monsters and clearing a forest full of rotting plants and animals so that everyone following you can safely traverse the forest.
There may be hints here and there, but in this case, the focus is more on dungeon exploration than anything else.
This throws you right into the action, interacting with a single NPC with very little control over you before entering a clearing where you battle monsters in the forest, loot, and upgrade equipment.

Boss battles in particular are rewarding as the attack patterns are synchronized to the music and make good use of the entire area. Each dance felt like a complex dance that needed to be learned on the fly to clear the dungeon.
A unique feature of this game is the multiplayer feature. The game allows you to play with 1-3 other players by hosting a lobby, joining a friend’s run, or randomly joining a team through matchmaking.
This could be fun if you could easily clear the more difficult areas. However, it can also pose a challenge, as it can make boss fights difficult if someone buys “power-ups” that fire random bombs around them.
Playing in random lobbies can also be frustrating when someone goes AFK. This is because unless one player moves to the exit where everyone else is, the remaining players will not be able to leave the area.
What keeps me going no matter how many times I fail is the challenge and the chance to upgrade and defeat areas and bosses again next time.
Each area is randomly assigned, so it’s highly replayable, with different character classes to try out, weapons to choose from depending on your preferred playstyle, and armor to upgrade with each success or failure.
Despite early access, rotwood Replayability keeps it interesting and provides a satisfying challenge to keep players interested.
With around 20-30 hours of gameplay and proficiency, the current version offers four different biomes, each with their own mini-bosses, bosses, and four weapon classes.
Looking ahead, the developers have indicated plans to introduce more content over the next year or two, potentially including additional weapons, features, character classes, and even biomes.
