Cartoon Network is a channel that has shaped many people’s childhoods, but a recent trend seen on X (formerly Twitter) has many intrigued and shocked that their favorite channel is on the verge of collapse.

What are the new rumors and where did it all start? Let’s find out…

What is RIP Cartoon Network trending in X?

Recently, an X-account named Animation Workers Ignited uploaded a post stating, “Cartoon Network is practically dead.” The message was posted through an animated video clip of two characters talking to each other.

The message said that the channel in question was being terminated, but also that other well-known anime studios would soon suffer the same fate.

The video then goes on to talk about people working in the animation industry, stating that while most of them are unemployed, a huge number of animators have been unemployed for over a year.

Animation was one of the few entertainment industries that continued production during the pandemic, but studios are now canceling many projects, “outsourcing work and laying off artists en masse,” the video continues.

Anime Clip says the reason this is happening is because of “greed,” adding that major studios are cutting back on spending as they tend to cut staff, with studio CEOs allegedly keeping the profits for themselves.

In X’s post, the account encouraged followers to share and spread the word about their favorite Cartoon Network shows they wish were still on the air. The video also mentioned using the hashtag “RIP Cartoon Network.”

Following this message, the video has garnered over 3 million views and counting. This new trend is merely a rumor and there has been no official update regarding the channel closure.

It’s clear that the account Animation Workers Ingnited is using #RIPCartoonNetwork to raise voices about issues facing animators and other industry workers.

RIP X’s reaction following Cartoon Network trend

The trend is currently ranked at the top of X, with over 11,000 posts, with netizens posting pictures of their favourite cartoons, with one person writing: “#RIPCartoonNetwork this transcends generations.”

Another user posted the opening to Teen Titans with the caption, “Cartoon Network gave us the best opening of all time and we are forever grateful for that. #RipCartoonNetwork.”

“#RipCartoonNetwork this can’t happen. all the shows they made were the best shows I watched growing up,” posted one user, many of whom were just as disappointed as the others.

Meanwhile, the Cartoon Network channel is known for airing a number of popular shows, including Tom and Jerry, The Looney Tunes Show, The Powerpuff Girls, College of the Cowardly Dog, Ben 10: Omniverse, The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Johnny Bravo, and Barney & Friends.
