Qatar University and Qatar Shell have partnered to launch a student entrepreneurship development pilot program called Shell Intiraka, as announced at the recent Qatar Economic Forum. The Shell Intiraka program is designed to support entrepreneurship among Qatari youth, equipping them with the skills, mindset and confidence they need to establish and succeed in business. The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive set of business and soft skills and connect them with support networks within the labor market. Shell Intiraka is the local name for the global company. Shell LiveWIRE’s flagship enterprise development program. We promote entrepreneurship and strengthen local economies around the world by developing entrepreneurs and their businesses. Shell LiveWIRE was launched in Scotland in 1982 to tackle youth unemployment. Today, LiveWIRE operates in approximately 18 countries, strengthening local economies through entrepreneurship, innovation, and meaningful jobs. Each year, LiveWIRE helps thousands of individuals access knowledge, skills, networks, and resources to start and/or grow their businesses. In 2023, Shell said LiveWIRE trained approximately 3,400 people and helped create more than 1,200 jobs worldwide. The program will support 1,051 existing companies and approximately 196 new companies, with 38 Shell LiveWIRE-supported companies entering Shell’s supply chain in 2022. Speaking at the signing ceremony at the Qatar Economic Forum, Qatar Shell Executive Vice President and Managing Director Richard Tarrant said: “Our collaboration with Qatar University to launch Shell Intiraka in Qatar confirms our mutual commitment to developing local talent and promoting social and economic growth in Qatar. Through Intiraka, we aim to inspire and empower entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions.”Qatar University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Organizational Excellence (CEOE) is the local implementing partner of this program. The Shell curriculum will be implemented and customized to meet the needs of the initial Shell Intilaca population. Participants will receive customized advisory services and coaching from business experts to help them improve their local business. The program is in line with the goals of Qatar Vision 2030 and is available in both Arabic and English. The first round of the program will start next year. , is open to all Qatar University students over the age of 18.
