Former President Donald Trump released a video statement Monday outlining his policy positions on abortion. Trump has changed a lot over the years on this issue. In 1999, he said he was “very pro-choice.” When he ran for president in 2016, he said he had become pro-life after seeing a friend refuse to have an abortion, and that his child was now a “complete superstar.” , said it had “evolved.” Today, eight months after his rematch with President Joe Biden, President Trump’s position is functionally pro-abortion.
President Trump said in a video statement that he does not support federal legislation to block abortion, that each state should decide at what age it is permissible to kill a fetus, and that he supports abortion in certain cases. Then he said.
The truth is this: killing babies is always wrong. President Trump’s position is not pro-life.
President Trump has argued that abortion should be based on the “will of the people.” But it is wrong for a democratic society to vote on the basic rights of an unpopular minority. And today, there is no minority more unpopular than newborn Americans. Abortion is not “the will of the people.” It is about respecting the human rights given to us by our Creator. Our rights come from God, not from the government. These rights do not change depending on the circumstances of our conception. A child conceived through rape does not deserve to be killed. Children conceived through IVF do not deserve to be killed, frozen indefinitely, or subjected to lethal scientific experiments. Children in the first trimester, or at any age, do not deserve to be discarded just because they are deemed undesirable or inconvenient.
President Trump’s position also runs counter to the Republican Party’s platform, which has for decades promoted the idea that the federal government should play a larger role in protecting children from abortion. The latest GOP platform looks like this:
The Constitution’s guarantee that no one shall be “deprived of life, liberty, or property” is a deliberate echo of the Declaration of Independence’s declaration that “all men” are “endowed by their Creator with an unalienable right to life.” It reflects. We therefore affirm the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life that will not be violated. We support the Life Amendment to the Constitution and laws to make clear that the protections of the Fourteenth Amendment apply to unborn children.

This position represents the opinion of the majority of Republican voters and supporters of former President Trump. It would be a tragedy for him to abandon the Republican position he has held for so many years.
Unfortunately, Trump’s new position is not one of leadership. That’s a stab in the back for many of his supporters.
With a leader like this, there is little hope that the Republican Party will make meaningful progress in protecting unborn children. President Trump’s mistakes will make it even more difficult for the pro-life movement to win statewide votes.
Human life begins with fertilization. This is a true pro-life position. Human life must be protected from the moment it begins. The pro-life movement is strong and growing across our country. Every day, people, especially young people, are awakening to the truth about the value of human life and the violence of abortion. I implore former President Trump to reject his consultant-driven position of abandoning families and children at risk of abortion.
Trump won in 2016 with the help of vigorous pro-life advocacy, and many of his supporters felt vindicated by the judge’s appointment that overturned it. Roe vs. Wade. But if he persists in this despicable and anti-human position, his support will not materialize in 2024. More than 2,500 children are killed every day in our country. They should be legally protected and our time demands champions who are not afraid to fight for them.
President Biden has proven to be the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s history, having supported taxpayer-funded abortion on demand for any reason throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy. Ta. If he remains president for another four years, it would be a disaster for his family and the unborn children at risk of abortion. But history will not look kindly on President Trump’s capitulation in the face of challenges and protecting innocent children from death. With the election still months away, there is still time for Trump to reverse course, stand up for what is right, and energize his base. The question is whether he will.
