  • Donald Trump’s campaign announced it raised more than $50 million at a Palm Beach fundraiser.
  • This comes after President Joe Biden’s recent fundraiser in New York raised $26 million.
  • Funds raised from the gala could help Mr. Trump with the mounting legal costs.

Donald Trump was having dinner with billionaires Saturday night, hoping they’ll help fund his campaign and legal costs.

The Trump campaign announced on Saturday that $50 million in donations had been raised at a fundraiser and gala in Palm Beach, according to the Associated Press.

That amount is nearly double the amount raised by President Joe Biden at a flashy Democratic Party fundraiser in New York on March 28th. It broke the single-event fundraising record, the Associated Press reported, and President Trump himself pointed that out on Saturday’s Truth Social show.

“BIGEST FUNDRAISING NIGHT EVER!!! Will double last week’s Biden numbers at Radio City. People are hungry for change. They want to make America great again!” Trump He wrote on Truth Social: The event was preceded by what was billed as President Trump’s “Inaugural Leadership Dinner.”

The Biden campaign announced Saturday that it raised $90 million in March and now has $192 million in cash. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is eager to bounce back, raising $65.6 million in March and having $93.1 million on hand.

A person close to Trump’s campaign, who spoke to The Washington Post on condition of anonymity, said Trump was “focused” on securing donations. CNN reported that attendees at the gala paid between $250,000 and $824,600 each.

One person involved in Biden’s fundraising who spoke to Axios said Trump’s strategy of “getting everyone maxed out in April” is unsustainable.

“This is what it means to be broke in a critical few months,” the person told Axios.

President Trump arrived at the gala on Saturday and posed with his wife, Melania, who has largely disappeared from the campaign trail over the past year but is expected to take a more active role going forward. .

A Palm Beach fundraiser held at hedge fund billionaire John Paulson’s mansion could help the former president’s campaign and mounting lawsuits. This includes millions of dollars in payments to companies representing him in four criminal cases.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Save America Leadership Political Action Committee, one of two PACs that have funded Trump’s legal issues, CNN reported.

Representatives for the Trump and Biden campaigns did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider outside of normal business hours.
