tempo, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (popularly known as Jokowi) has declared June 10 as National Entrepreneurship Day. The Head of State approved a proposal by Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) Central Committee (BPP) General Secretary Akbar Himawan Buchali through a presidential decree.
President Jokowi announced the decision while attending HIPMI’s 52nd anniversary celebrations at a hotel in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, June 10. President Jokowi said the decision was this year’s birthday present to HIPMI as he will step down as chairman next year and be succeeded by Prabowo Subianto.
HIPMI chairman Akbar Himawan Buchalli said he proposed to President Jokowi to declare National Entrepreneurship Day, in part because since its establishment on June 10, 1972, HIPMI has been successful in producing a generation of young entrepreneurs who will play key roles in the national economy.
“HIPMI is not only producing young entrepreneurs, but also leaders at the national and regional levels. This is proof that HIPMI has been successful in realizing its vision and mission,” he said in a written statement on Friday (June 7) quoted by Antara.
Akbar said HIPMI’s 52nd anniversary is an opportunity to thank President Jokowi for truly caring about the business community, which he said is reflected in the increase in the number of entrepreneurs during his term.
Many ministers and heads of state agencies from the “Progressive Indonesia Cabinet” attended this afternoon’s event, including President Jokowi’s son-in-law and HIPMI Vice Chairman Bobby Nasution, who is also the current mayor of Medan and is married to Jokowi’s daughter Kahiyang Ayu.
