With wedding season in full swing, villa experts at CV Villas analysed Google searches from around the world over the past year to discover which locations across the continent newlyweds are most keen to visit.
They compiled a list of 197 European destinations and analysed global Google searches for “destination name + honeymoon” over the past 12 months, comparing it with the previous year to discover which destinations are on the rise in popularity in 2024/25.
With searches for honeymoons in Europe reaching a staggering 2.94 million in the past year, it’s clear that the continent has a lot to offer couples in love. The top trending travel destination for 2024/25 is none other than Lefkada, Greece. This beautiful destination is located in the Ionian Sea and offers couples the opportunity to swim in sparkling blue waters, with the famous white cliffs of Cape Lefkada as a backdrop. Compared to last year, searches for honeymoons on this Mamma Mia-worthy island have increased by 120%, making it the top trending place to celebrate marriage in Europe.
Split, Croatia, came in second on the list, with searches for the marble-clad city overlooking the glittering Adriatic Sea increasing by 110%. Often overlooked by Dubrovnik (ranked 19th on the list), the study proves that lovey-dovey photos of Split will be flooding your timeline for the next 12 months or so.
Coming in third place is Bled, arguably made famous by the pristine and iconic Lake Bled. The vast, postcard-perfect lake is adorned with a fairytale-like island church and a medieval castle perched atop a rocky cliff, making it a romance-filled destination for newlyweds.
Portugal’s Madeira island has made it into the top five with an 85% increase in honeymoon searches. The island has seen a surge in traveller interest on social media in recent years, and is full of fantastic romantic spots to charm couples. From the Madeira Botanical Gardens to Monte Palace Tropical Gardens or a dip in the natural pools of Porto Moniz, there’s no shortage of places to enjoy the first few weeks of married life.
