Gov. Ron DeSantis has the highest disapproval rating of any governor in the nation, but remains popular among Republican voters in the state, according to a new Morning Consult poll.
Mr. DeSantis’ disapproval rating was 44%, the third highest among governors in the survey, which tracks politicians’ state voter sentiment. That number ranks behind Oregon Democrat Tina Kotek (45%) and Iowa Republican Kim Reynolds (47%).
Kotek ran as a progressive Democrat, but took a more centrist stance in office. Reynolds made headlines last year when he endorsed DeSantis as he ran for president, a move that was harshly criticized by former President Donald Trump.
Overall, DeSantis is relatively popular in Florida, with 51% of voters approving of his job, the poll found. With 81% approval in the poll, Vermont Republican Phil Scott remains by far the most popular governor in the country.
The poll offers potential good news for Mr. DeSantis’ political future. Florida’s governor, who must retire in early 2027 due to term limits, had the second-highest approval rating among Republican governors at 84%.
Mr. DeSantis also performed better than any other governor in the country on certain metrics. More Republicans said they strongly approve of DeSantis’ job than any other Republican governor, according to the survey.
Morning Consult also surveyed voters in the states they represent about their views on all 100 U.S. senators. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida received moderate ratings, with Scott at 46% and Rubio at 47%.
But Scott, who is up for re-election in the fall, was not among the nation’s most vulnerable incumbents. That honor belonged to Democratic Sens. Jon Tester of Montana, Jacky Rosen of Nevada, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin. and Republican Ted Cruz of Texas.
New Jersey Democrat Bob Menendez, who was indicted on corruption charges in September, had the lowest approval rating of any senator, the survey found. Wyoming Republican John Barrasso is the most popular senator in the country.
Morning Consult polls are based on an average of data from three months of daily tracking of voters. Voting was conducted from January to March. According to its methodology, the online pollster’s daily surveys include information from about 9,000 registered voters.
