Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked his supporters for the NDA’s victory.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the last cabinet meeting of the current administration that winning and losing are part of politics. The Bharatiya Janata Party led by Prime Minister Modi won 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats in the general election of 2019, but this time it only managed to win 240 seats. It is 32 seats short of the majority of 272 seats. The 53 seats won by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party will be the key to forming a government.

“We have done a good job in the last 10 years and will continue to do so,” PM Modi told NDA leaders at the last Cabinet meeting.

Regarding the results of India’s Lok Sabha elections, with the NDA claiming to form power for a third time, Prime Minister Modi described the election results as a victory for the world’s largest democracy, saying, “Winning and losing are part of politics. The numbers game will continue.”

The Prime Minister thanked the Union Ministers for their best efforts in the last 10 years.

“You have all worked very hard,” PM Modi said.

After the meeting, he headed to the presidential palace to submit his resignation. He is due to be sworn in for a new term on Saturday.

“The President has accepted his resignation and has asked Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue in their duties until a new government is formed,” the President’s Office said in a statement.

The current term of the 17th House of Representatives ends on June 16th.

The Indian National Congress, a member of the opposition Indian Alliance, won 99 seats in the latest election compared with 52 in the 2019 election, unseating the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan and Haryana.
