Penn State Brandywine’s Freshman Entrepreneurs Club, formed on March 28, held its first major event, the Student Pitch Contest.

Penn State Brandywine’s Entrepreneurship Club hosted the student organization’s first major event, the Student Pitch Contest, on March 28, writes Penn State Brandywine’s Christina Billy.
In this competition, six students from the club pitched their startup ideas to a panel of judges.
The Entrepreneurship Club is a new student organization on campus that just launched for the Spring 2024 semester.
The club’s mission is to develop the entrepreneurial spirit needed to launch a start-up business, and all club meetings typically focus on design thinking exercises, business and product development, and prototyping .
The student pitch competition was sponsored by Brandywine LaunchBox, a signature program of InventPennsylvania, a commonwealth-wide initiative to promote economic development, job creation and student career success.
This event was created to prepare students for the Idea TestLab Pitch Competition in Fall 2024.
The winner of the student pitch contest was Pranav Ramesh from CTFGuide, a startup that aims to help people learn about cybersecurity easily.
Second place was awarded to Tejas Chigurupati of Panic Lock LLC, a business that aims to make school lockdown devices available to people with disabilities.
Third place went to Frances Bockarie’s startup MenteeMe, which won the award for its mobile phone application that pairs students and alumni with mentors and mentees.
Chigurupati, president of the Entrepreneurship Club and Brandywine LaunchBox digital marketing intern, said the main purpose of the event was to get students’ ideas heard.
“With this event, we wanted to give students a place to express their creative ideas freely,” Chigurupati said. “Not only that, but we wanted their ideas to reach Brandywine faculty, administrators, and fellow students.”
Tony Mattei, Entrepreneurship Club staff advisor and Director of Entrepreneurship and Digital Marketing at Brandywine, was impressed with the students’ progress over the past two months and encouraged them to organize the event. I was proud of them.
“Starting with the first club meeting at the beginning of the spring semester, the development of our students’ pitches has been remarkable,” Mattei said.
“The six students impressed both the judges and attendees and I look forward to great futures for them all.”
