Part 2: Practical application of precision milking technology

Today is day two of DeLava newl’s two-part series on robotic VMS solution technology. Jason French, VDMS solutions manager, explains that batch milking is when the cows go to a robot rather than a traditional parlor environment for milking.
“Now, instead of walking them to a traditional parlor or roundabout, we move them to a group of robots that actually act as a parlor.”
VMS batch milking allows farmers to use robots to consistently harvest milk from their cows while maintaining a schedule, French said. Unlike human milkers or their absence, the robot maintains a stable position, ensuring a uniform milking process for each cow.
“Normally you would put in a crowd gate, but we have a gate in place so that once the cows are in the holding area, they can get out, but now the atmosphere in the holding area has changed. She’s relaxed. She’s probably in a very good environment.” She can move freely from robot to robot in the area where the fans are. Unlike roundabouts and parlors, there is a crowd gate to move the cows up at the same time.
