Technology and the flow of digital information are critical elements that support OSU’s strategic goals and the management, operation, development, and delivery of university services.
In her role as vice provost and chief information officer (VP/CIO) for University Information Technology (UIT) at Oregon State University (OSU), Andrea Ballinger is responsible for the delivery of enterprise IT services and university-wide IT infrastructure. I’m in charge. The UIT will guide policy development and manage his IT resources for OSU’s academic, extension, administrative, and university research departments.
UIT promotes and maintains a trusting, collaborative, community-driven IT environment by utilizing governance and advisory groups to advance and support OSU’s mission and values.
By aligning IT strategy with the university’s needs and strategic goals, Ballinger and his team drive innovation and strive for operational excellence to meet the evolving expectations of students, faculty, researchers, and employees.
Ballinger’s path to becoming a leader in technology and higher education was far from what he imagined. She said: “When I was young, I had no intention of pursuing higher education. And I wasn’t even interested in technology. I wanted to be a pediatrician!”
For Ballinger, who had a natural strength in mathematics and science, becoming a pediatrician was a way to counter misogynistic expectations of modern women’s careers.
She continues: “People always said, ‘Women should be nurses.’ said. I decided to dispel that stereotype. ”
