The Sheriff’s Department hosted the grand opening of the new OC Sheriff’s Technology Center on June 27. The center brings three departments under one roof, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
The 120,000-square-foot facility in Tustin will house the Department of Defense’s Technology, Operational Support and Intelligence and Special Operations divisions.
The Sheriff Technology Center’s grand opening also marks the opening of the OC Sheriff’s Real-Time Operations Center, which leverages technology to improve public safety and response to critical incidents.
The Sheriff’s Technology Center is a state-of-the-art facility that combines real-time crime analysis with public safety resources including emergency communications, federal partnerships and technology to address a variety of incidents.
“Our staff are at the heart of providing great service, but giving them the space and tools they need enhances their ability to protect our communities,” said Orange County Sheriff and Coroner Don Barnes. “We are driving a culture change in how we use technology and look forward to seeing solutions-focused ways to prevent crime, solve cases and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
Orange County purchased the building in June 2022. The cost of the facility is estimated to be $110 million, including all security, audio/visual and structural upgrades.
The Sheriff’s Technology Center will house the department’s technology division, which is made up of six teams that perform a variety of critical functions, including maintaining the county’s 800 MHz wireless infrastructure, performing information technology services and providing technology vehicle upgrades to more than 100 county agencies.
The new center will also house an operational support and intelligence division, including a Real-Time Operations Center, a Sheriff’s Dispatch and Management Center and the Orange County Intelligence and Evaluation Center.
As part of the Special Enforcement Bureau, the SWAT Team and Hazardous Devices Division also operate out of the Sheriff’s Technology Center, which has the space to adequately support the department’s personnel, tools and assets.
Additionally, the facility will feature large training and meeting rooms, a media briefing room, collaborative spaces and eventually a museum space dedicated to preserving and honoring the Sheriff’s Department’s rich history.
