Nothing, the London-based mobile phone manufacturer known for its unique transparent design language, recently launched the Nothing Ear, the successor to last year’s Nothing Ear (2). The new earbuds look the same as the old ones, but they have some pretty significant upgrades in terms of battery, sound quality, and more. If you’re confused between the new Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (2), here are some key differences between the two.
The new Nothing Ear comes with a much-needed upgrade in the battery department. Compared to the Nothing Ear (2), which the company claims lasts up to 4 hours with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, the new earbuds last up to 5.2 hours on a single charge with ANC turned on. This is an increase of almost 25%.
For those who can manage without ANC, the difference between the two is even greater. The Nothing Ear (2) has a battery life of 6.5 hours, while modern earphones can last up to 8.5 hours.
Audio improvements
In our review, we found the new Nothing Ear to have better sound quality compared to last year’s Nothing Ear (2). The latest flagship earphones have a good mix of treble and bass, giving you a more sophisticated experience.
The company appears to have reduced the size of the driver from 11.6mm to 11m, but according to Nothing, this time it uses a ceramic driver, which is more compact compared to the graphene and polyurethane driver used in the Nothing Ear (2). It is said to provide rich sound.
More noise canceling and better microphone
Nothing Ear (2) provides ANC and blocks up to 40 decibels of external noise. This may not be the best in the industry, but it’s very good considering the asking price. However, while the new Nothing Ear can cancel up to 45 decibels of noise, turning it on may affect sound quality.
Nothing has also developed proprietary technology to reduce unwanted background noise during calls. The company claims that the new Nothing Ear’s Clear Voice Technology 3.0 “reduces interference by up to 60%” compared to Nothing Ear’s Clear Voice Technology 2.0 (2).

Nothing Ear (2) is currently available on Flipkart and other e-commerce platforms for Rs 8,999. The new Nothing Ear is priced at Rs 11,999. If you want more battery life, a little bit better sound quality, and make a lot of voice calls, the newly released Nothing Ear is for you. However, last year’s Nothing Ear (2) is not bad at all. If you don’t mind a little less battery life, Nothing Ear (2) offers a similar experience at a relatively lower price.
