  • Booking Holdings surveyed 32,300 people in 32 countries to determine Gen Z’s travel trends.
  • Data shows that nightlife and entertainment are not the main factors influencing Gen Z’s travel plans.
  • Good food, safety, and fair prices all ranked highly.

Nightlife and warm weather are big draws for some vacationers, unless you’re Gen Z.

It’s no secret that older Zoomers suffer from severe wanderlust, with 43% believing that traveling is a more important goal than “educational advancement” in a 2023 Business Insider survey. It is shown. Travel also ranked higher than “creative fulfillment” and “debt freedom.” On the other hand, things like entertainment and nightlife don’t drive the urge to travel.

Data shared by travel agency Booking Holdings reveals the main factors Gen Z considers when choosing a destination. The survey was conducted between January 2024 and February 2024 among 32,300 people in 32 countries.

Gen Z cites delicious food and natural scenery as the biggest deciding factors when choosing a vacation destination.

According to Booking Holdings, the top three factors that influence Gen Z’s travel destinations are delicious local food, value for money, and captivating natural scenery. After that came shopping and safety.

Neither warm weather nor nightlife or entertainment ranked in the top 10, according to the data.

Warm vacation destinations like Florida and Hawaii always attract tourists, but winter travel remains popular. TripAdvisor’s 2023 Winter Travel Index found that 68% of Gen Z respondents are planning a trip that winter.

When it comes to nightlife and entertainment, savings efforts may have an impact after inflation. Gen Z also tends to consume less alcohol than previous generations.

When it comes to Gen Z’s travel motivations, data shows that relaxation and exploring new places are the main drivers.

Almost two-thirds, or 59%, of Gen Z survey respondents told Booking Holdings that they get their travel inspiration from social media. This is the highest of all generations surveyed.

Considering how popular this type of content is online, it’s no surprise that Gen Z turns to social media for travel ideas. There were 42.6 million posts with the “travel” hashtag on TikTok, compared to 732 million posts on Instagram.

Social media has become a travel tool for content creators to showcase local hidden gems, share daily vlogs, and give advice to their followers.

Traveling makes people relax, but it also helps Gen Z feel more confident. According to the data, 72% of Zoomers feel “like the best version of themselves” while traveling.
