INDIANAPOLIS — Leaders are recruiting participants for an Indy summer camp that helps develop young entrepreneurial minds.

NICHE Jr. Entrepreneurship is sponsored by Crooked Creek Northwest CDC. During summer camp, children generate various start-up business ideas.

They follow the process of developing ideas, from T-shirts to business plans, and learn how to resolve conflicts.

The goal is to give children a place to develop their leadership skills and pursue something for the future.

“By planting seeds early and instilling the values of entrepreneurship in our children, we are creating not only future leaders, but also future leaders,” said Toseia Holmes, executive director of the Crooked Creek Northwest Community Development Corporation. I believe we can also foster new business owners.”

Jaden Young was in the NICHE Jr. program last year. When he grows up he wants to own his own business.

He used his love of sports to build a business plan to create accessories for athletes.

“I realized that I needed to learn how to do marketing and the marketing mix with things like the four P’s, insurance tax, and accounting,” Young said.

This camp is for children ages 9 to 13 who live on the Northwest Side. There are scholarships available for low- to moderate-income households.

It will be held from June 3 to July 26, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Covenant Community Church.
