Former President Donald Trump is receiving treatment at a local hospital and is said to be in “good spirits” shortly after he was hastily removed from the stage at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening.
A few minutes into Trump’s speech, a loud gunshot was heard and when he stood up he had blood on the side of his head.
New York politicians were quick to join the cry of many Americans wishing the former president well and condemning any acts of violence.
Gov. Kathy Hauckle said she was praying for President Trump.
“Any violence against fellow Americans is abhorrent and unacceptable. Political differences must be expressed peacefully, civilly and respectfully. I wish former President Trump and all attending this event in Pennsylvania safety and health,” Hawkle said in a post on X.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the events of the day “horrifying.”
“The events that occurred today at a rally in Pennsylvania are horrifying. My prayers go out to former President Trump, his family and all who attended today’s rally. Political violence has no place in our country. Out of an abundance of caution, the NYPD has deployed additional officers to select locations across the five boroughs,” Adams wrote.
A spokesperson for the mayor also confirmed that the NYPD will be stepping up security across the city, including at Trump Tower, 40 Wall Street, Foley Square and City Hall.
We are ramping up these resources, but I want to be clear that at this time there is no connection to New York City.
No matter what your political stance is, we should all be able to agree that violence is wrong and that we can manage our differences peacefully.
I pray for the former president’s safety.

President Joe Biden said he was grateful to hear that President Trump was safe and well.
“As we await more information, I am praying for him, his family and all those who were at the rally,” the president said. “Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for evacuating him to safety. This kind of violence has no place in America, and we must come together as a nation to condemn it.”
The President and New York’s top leaders have all been briefed on the current situation.
