New 12-week program starting next week Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will provide education, mentorship and $10,000 in business funding to participating local tech entrepreneurs.
WCC Entrepreneurship Centerof “All-in” Technology Ecosystem Development Program The program aims to foster innovation and support technology entrepreneurs. The program, which will begin on July 15, is run by WCC and Ann Arbor SPARKand Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti SmartZone Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA).
“Entrepreneurship is about solving a problem and creating a business that makes it happen,” said Michelle Joulet, director of WCC’s Entrepreneurship Center. “Technology is becoming more and more prevalent among our clients, and SPARK is seeing that too.”
Jurett said participants will be able to tap into “resources, mentorship and networking opportunities that are vital for early-stage tech founders” in the Washtenaw County community. Press release from SPARK “The program will facilitate valuable insights from industry experts, from opportunities to connect with academic and business leaders to financial planning support,” the company said.
“We want this program to be completely inclusive and supportive, but also rigorous,” says Julette. “The education aspect is very important here. There will be a lot of guidance and mentoring to help entrepreneurs develop their businesses to the fullest.”
Applications for the program closed at the end of June, and Julette says she’s excited to see how the selected participants receive the program. She also encourages aspiring entrepreneurs and current small business owners who applied to this summer’s program but weren’t selected to look into the Entrepreneurship Center’s other programs. “We were really surprised by the number of applicants and the number of really good companies that applied,” Julette said. “For those who weren’t able to apply this time, there are lots of other programs available for people at any stage of their entrepreneurial journey.”
