LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A new farmers market has officially opened in North Las Vegas.
The inaugural Farm to Table Market event was held at Craig Ranch Regional Park on Friday afternoon.
“We’re so excited to be coming to North Las Vegas. This is the first time we’ve had a farmers market here and we’re really excited for the community to come and enjoy it,” said Brenda McNair, co-founder of Farm to Table Farmers Market.
This new community-focused market aims to bring together local farmers, artisans and foodies to promote sustainable, farm-to-table produce and local businesses.
Attendees could enjoy live music, entertainment and food.
More than 50 vendors gathered at the park selling items such as fresh fruits and vegetables, dill popcorn, candy and custom cutting boards.
“I’m so excited,” said Diane Warren, who lives in North Las Vegas.
Warren loves going to farmers markets to buy her produce, but she says she usually has to drive 30 minutes to Henderson to get fresh produce.
“There’s nothing here,” she said.
But now she no longer has to make a long commute and will instead buy all of her produce at the new Farmers Market in North Las Vegas.
“I just hope that happens,” she said.
“I think it’s great that they’re doing this here in North Las Vegas and it’s a great way to get to know the community,” said Bailey Egbert, who was selling candy at the event.
North Las Vegas is considered a food desert, and many see the market as a great way to bring quality food to the area.
“Sometimes it’s a question of accessibility. No one wants to go all the way to Henderson or Boulder City to have a market,” said McKenna Elton, owner of Bella Chic Decor.
McNair said farmers markets are also important for small businesses.
“This gives us an opportunity to let the community know we’re here,” Egbert said.
“It’s really helped us reach a new customer base,” another dealer said.
Cooling stations and cold water were also provided for everyone in the scorching heat.
