A live-action Scooby-Doo TV show is reportedly in development at Netflix, and actor Matthew Lillard, among others, soon started trending on social media.
“If they’re really going to do this, the last culprit to be exposed has to be Matthew Lillard, especially after what happened to him.” [Five Nights at Freddy’s]” one user wrote, referring to the film adaptation that will be released in 2023.

Social media users were reacting to a Variety report claiming that a new live-action Scooby-Doo movie is coming to Netflix. It will reportedly be a “one-hour drama” based on the Hanna-Barbera comic of the same name. There are few other details, such as who will take on the roles of the Scooby gang, but we’re sure social media users have ideas.
The craze for Lillard was sparked by his now-iconic performance as Shaggy in the 2002 live-action film. The film was largely panned by critics, many of whom noted that Lillard was “eerily perfect for the role of Shaggy.” Lillard has since provided the voice of Shaggy in a number of her animated projects, as well as MultiVersus.
Whether Lillard is involved or not, the new Scooby-Doo project will be directed by Josh Appelbaum, who served as executive producer on the live-action version of Cowboy Bebop and wrote the screenplay for films such as 2018’s Venom. It will reportedly be written by Scott Rosenberg. The project is said to be nearing agreement, but plot details are yet to be revealed.
