The University of Mumbai plans to open 75 startup clinics in seven districts within its jurisdiction to encourage entrepreneurship among university students.
The university is inviting applications from relevant universities and research institutes to establish these clinics. The clinic will be run by his MU IDEAS Foundation Incubation Centre, the university’s own incubator. MU IDEAS Foundation Incubation Center is a Section 8 Company and is funded by the Innovation Society of Maharashtra.
With the aim of building a more diverse and vibrant startup ecosystem, these clinics facilitate budding ventures by students from diverse academic backgrounds.
According to information shared by Dr. Sachin Raddha, Director, Innovation, Incubation and Linkage, MU, the initiative will initially start with 20 projects each in Mumbai city and suburban districts, followed by 15 projects in Thane, Palghar and Sindhudhu. Five cases will be conducted in each group. Raigad and Ratnagiri. Each clinic is managed by a dedicated board of trustees led by faculty members appointed from the specific university. However, its activities are not limited to that particular university. Instead, it serves as a start-up support for budding student entrepreneurs from nearby universities.
Dr. Radda said: “The Startup Clinic is a program offered by MU IDEAS for entrepreneurs to support and empower student entrepreneurs. The goal of this program is to increase diversity and inclusion in the startup ecosystem and provide resources and support, including access to resources and technology, to help student-led startups grow and succeed. It’s about providing a supportive community at home.”
This will be a free virtual/physical mentorship program that will provide resources such as mentorship, networking, and access to MU IDEAS expertise and technology. The clinic will not only help student entrepreneurs with their ideas, product designs and technology strategies, but will also help students approach investors for potential funding in the near future.
“One of the aims of opening these clinics is to provide direct access to the university’s own incubator, the MU IDEAS Foundation Incubation Center, located on the Kalina campus, which would otherwise be inaccessible to many. These clinics are a joint venture between affiliated universities and the MU IDEAS Foundation Incubation Center,” said Radha. According to Dr. Radda, the idea is to encourage, guide and support enterprises by students coming from different courses of higher education.
The college principal chairs these clinics, but there is a faculty member in charge. The clinic will also include three entrepreneurs, two faculty members passionate about entrepreneurship, three students, and one representative appointed by MU’s Director of Innovation, Incubation and Linkages.
